Join us to make and play, explore and create, at our upcoming Free Family Days. On Monday, January 18, visitors to our Martin Luther King, Jr., Free Family Day will enjoy art-making and gallery activities inspired by the exhibition The Memory Palace: Domesticity, Objects, and the Interior like House Collage and Origami Furniture. On Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 15, join us for a Not-Even-Bedtime Pajama Party and create a Bedside Table Still Life, a Pajama Fashion Design, or try Bedtime Yoga.
Danforth Art offers a wide range of creative workshops and inspired short classes for all levels of ability. Try It’s! and one-session workshops, and short classes of fewer than six classes are opportunities for newcomers to explore art-making, and for returning students to experiment with a new medium or technique. Upcoming workshops include: Framing Your Artwork, Large Scale Drawing, The Figure Transformed, Travel Sketchbooks, and more.
If you were tasked with transforming one volume of an illustrated children’s encyclopedia into art, would you be inspired by the book as an object of learning, by its fonts and pictures, or by the content in its pages? Come view "The Whole World For Your Children": Artists’ Reinterpretations of the 1934 Britannica Junior and see how area artists created contemporary and imaginative interpretations of a very special set of books. Made from volumes of this historic encyclopedia, these diverse works invite you to consider it as both a transmitter of information and an art object.
