School Vacation Week Workshops

Danforth Art School offers programs for children in Grades K-8 during the three school vacation weeks, December, February and April. These are typically two-day workshops designed to allow children to get out of the house for some much needed fun while still providing art learning experiences in the studios. Students enjoy two three-hour classes each day, broken up by snack breaks, a lunch period and starting in April, 2019, a visit to the Danforth Museum. Our school vacation week workshops offer programming which is less about lessons, and more about exploration of materials and ideas. Please note: we will not hold December workshops in 2018 due to construction at the building.

February School Vacation Week Workshops

American artists

Spend vacation week in the studio! Come to our two-day workshops creating amazing artwork inspired by American Artists. There are so many artists from long ago and today whose work has made an enormous impact on the entire art world, such as painters Mary Cassatt and Jackson Pollack and sculptors Louise Nevelson, and Framingham's own Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller! Our experienced teachers will provide enriching experiences as students explore ideas and try new techniques in a variety of mediums. Our two-day workshops are designed to allow students to express their own ideas while learning a little about art and having fun with friends. Each day consists of two 3-hour classes with snack break and a 1-hour lunch break. Each two-day workshop is different so students can come for the whole week! For children in grades K-8.

About Drop off and Pick up

Danforth Art School is located at 14 Vernon Street, and accessed through the parking lot off of Grove Street. The school is entered through the lobby at the rear of the building; take the elevator to the third floor. We will have studio assignments for each grade level in the school lobby.When dropping off your child, please help them to put coats and bags in the bin in their studios and to find their name tag. Please be aware that if you need to drop off your child prior to 8:45, you will need to purchase the AM Extended Day class in addition to the workshop. For AM and PM Extended Day, please go directly to room 315 located directly off the elevator on the third floor.

About Lunch, Snacks and nut policy

The School Vacation Week Workshop schedule includes daily supervised breaks for morning and afternoon snacks, and for lunch. Students are expected to bring their own, nut-free lunches, healthy snacks, and a water bottle. Refrigeration is not available. All items should be labeled with the student's full name. Please make sure your child knows which food should be eaten at snack time and lunch time. Danforth Art School is not a nut-free facility; however, students are asked not to bring snacks or lunches that, to the extent verifiable, contain nuts, tree nuts, or products containing those ingredients. We do not inspect people's belongings, and cannot guarantee that all participants will comply. Please alert the school office if your child has a serious allergy or other medical concerns.

About Extended Day

EXTENDED DAY AM: 8:00am - 9:00am
Less structured than an art classes, Extended Day sessions include supervised activities for all ages, including games, stories and art projects. Please plan to come into room 315 on the third floor for AM Extended Day to drop off students. Fee required.

EXTENDED DAY PM: 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Less structured than an art classes, Extended Day sessions include supervised activities for all ages, including games, stories and art projects. Please make every effort to pick up children promptly by 6pm in room 315. Fee required.

The Winter session will be open for new registrations on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.
